Year 4 Workshop- Ganesh Chaturthi

Image
Today Year 4 had their first RE festival workshop! They thought about how birthdays are celebrated and then learnt about how some Hindu's celebrate the birthday of the elephant-headed God Ganesh. We noticed some similarities and lots of differences.  We had a go at drawing at making a model of the God Ganesh out of playdoh. We had great fun!  Well done to Harley and Eva who had a go at drawing Ganesh too.

Year 6 Workshop- Ganesh Chaturthi

Today we had great discussions around birthdays and how we celebrate them. This led on to us thinking about how the Hindu God Ganesh's birthday is celebrated. We noticed lots of similarities between how some people celebrate Ganesh's birthday at Ganesh Chaturthi and how we celebrate our own birthdays, from decorating with lots of color, sharing special meals with friends and families, to having sweet treats and music. We attempted to draw our own Ganesh which proved to be tricky but overall successful. Finally we thought about how Ganesh Chaturthi is similar and different to a Christian Christmas.

We noticed some similarities and lots of differences. Much discussion was had around the origin story of Ganesh himself and his appearance. We had a go at drawing our own Ganesh Gods with great success.

Here we will post the workshops that will be run across the school highlighting different religious festivals around the world. This will give our children the chance to learn about how other people view the world. We will look at similarities and differences and hopefully see the fun side of learning about different religions.
